Your wedding is your day – so you don’t have to follow any rules. However, if etiquette is important to you, these guidelines will help you avoid an invitation faux pas.

Regarding Your Invitation Wording

1. Don’t mention gifts. Registries should never be mentioned on invitations. Similarly, you shouldn’t indicate a preference for monetary gifts. It is perfectly acceptable, however, to include your wedding website on the accommodations card so guests can find your registry information.

2. But specify no gifts. On the other hand, if you don’t want your guests to give presents, you can say so in the bottom corner of your invitation. Possible wording choices include:

“No gifts please.”
“Your presence is our treasured/cherished gift. We respectfully request no other.”
“Accepting good wishes only.”
“Your presence is the only present we require. We request that you give no other.”

3. Put the bride’s name first. If the wedding is for a bride and groom, it’s traditional for the bride’s name to be listed first (e.g., The Wedding of Jenna Anderson and Brian Roberts).

4. Spell out the year. The proper way to designate the year of your celebration is “Two Thousand Twenty.”

5. Make it clear if children are welcome: If you’d like children to attend your wedding, include the children’s names on the invitations. If you don’t want them to attend, the invitation should simply state, “Respectfully, we cannot accommodate children.”

When Addressing Envelopes

6. Don’t abbreviate street. Or road, avenue, court, etc. You should spell out the word so the invitation reads, “123 Birch Avenue” and not “123 Birch Ave.” Likewise, don’t use state abbreviations.

7. Avoid nicknames. Use your guests’ full first and last names. And don’t abbreviate formal titles.

8. Use numbers for addresses. House numbers and zip codes should be numerals. For example: – 123 Main Street Miami, Florida12345

9. Don’t write “and family.” If children are included in your celebration, it’s customary to write their first names on the inner envelope beneath their parents’ names in order of age.

10. Spell out “and.” It’s “Mr. and Mrs.” and not “Mr. & Mrs.”

One of the hottest trends in weddings today is using geometric shapes in your theme. And there are many ways to integrate this chic style throughout your celebration.

Start with your invitation: Decide what colors and shapes appeal to you. You have numerous options. For example, the Geometric Color Block invitation suite features a gorgeous slate, midnight and peach color theme. And the invitation’s slanted wording gives it a surprising, unconventional twist (not to mention the coordinating avant-garde envelope with bright pops of color!). Or for a more subtle, delicate option, consider the Speckled Geo Invitation suite with trendy rose gold foil and an embossed geometric design.

Incorporate it into your ceremony: Welcome guests to your special day with a sign matching the design of your invitation. Create a backdrop using geometric shapes and decorate it with flowers or greenery. Metal or wood work nicely. Use cube candle lanterns to illuminate the aisle.

Continue with the table décor: Combining metal geo shapes, along with on-trend succulents, will give your centerpieces an unexpected and chic feel. Copper and rose gold are stylish choices. And incorporate your chosen pattern on the menus.

Then shape up your reception space: Instead of rectangular escort cards, use a different silhouette like a triangle or hexagon. Hang geometric floral lanterns from the ceiling to spotlight your sweetheart table, bar or guest book. And why not have each cake tier made in a unique shape?

This theme fits a variety of styles, budgets and venues. It’s a versatile trend that you can really make your own. And it can be combined with other styles, like brushstroke or watercolor for added personality and style.

The colors that you choose for your wedding invitations can really solidify the tone and style of your ceremony and reception. Therefore, you must select these hues wisely. Narrow down your color options with these helpful tips:

Consider theme
The theme of your wedding plays a big part in determining the colors that you choose for your invitations. For instance, if you’re having formal, traditional nuptials, you may want to consider shades like ivory, white or beige, all of which are commonly used in classic weddings. A romantic, rustic big day, however, may call for colors like lavender, pink or red.

Keep the season in mind
The time of year in which you’re tying the knot can be a big factor in determining the colors to use for your stationery. The fall season, for example, calls for warm, welcoming hues such as gold, red, orange and yellow. A winter wedding, on the other hand, would look beautiful with a neutral color palette or holiday-themed hues accented with metallics.

Look for inspiration
Browse through Pinterest, bridal magazines and wedding stationery to get a good idea of what you like and don’t like. You may find you love a color combination that you would have never considered before.

Lucky you! There are so many options for printing your wedding invitations you’re guaranteed a custom look no matter what you choose.

The challenge? Choosing!

I’m going to give you the quick low-down on printing processes so you can make the right decision for your invitations, your style and your event.

Thermography
Looks like engraving, but it’s a fraction of the cost! The raised lettering is created with ink and powder and heat. You get to choose the lettering style and the ink color to make the look your own.

Digital
Flat printing in brilliant color! High-resolution, digital color printing technology makes your invitations stand out from the crowd. Photos, colorful designs, intricate patterns – digital does it all.

Foil
It’s easy to go up-scale! A special die is covered in foil and pressed into your invitations to add a one-of-a-kind shine. Go with touches of foil or choose a design that’s printed entirely in foil for glam.

Letterpress
Traditional craft, modern style! Plates with your design are pressed into thick, heavy paper, creating crisp impressions. Speaking of impressions – make a great one by choosing the ink colors that will set the tone for your wedding.

Start working on that first impression, Call Now at 516-802-0612 or email gina@liweddingplanners.com

There’s a lot that goes into sending out your save the date announcements. Here are some tips to keep in mind in regard to save-the-date etiquette.

Who to send them to

Save the dates are an expected courtesy, especially if you’re getting married on a holiday weekend or in a far off destination. Keep in mind that the group of people that receive a save the date should also be expecting a wedding invitation to follow, so only invite people you want to celebrate with you on your big day. Even if you’ve already received confirmation from certain guests by mouth or by email, it’s still proper to send them a save the date.

A teaser for what’s to come

Save the dates set the tone for what’s to come in the way of a wedding theme and color palette. If you’re set on a rustic affair, you’ll want to search for stationery that reflects that natural tone. However, keep in mind that save the dates are often less formal than wedding invitations, so you can feel free to get creative.

Let your personality shine

Take this opportunity to inject a bit of your personality into the stationery. Whether it’s through wording, pictures or design, there are plenty of ways to make it your own.

Look at your options

You don’t realize how many options you truly have until you sit down and try to pick out the perfect save the date. Before you decide on one, consider all of the various styles and colors you can choose from. You can send out a save-the-date calendar or opt for various features like foil, flat print, folded, layered, ribbon, photo, translucent, tri-fold and more.

When to mail out

Mail your save-the-date announcements about 12-18 months prior to the actual ceremony. This means you need to have a set date that goes out on the announcements.

Destination wedding rules

If you’re planning to tie the knot in in a faraway destination, spread the news as early as possible prior to the big day. This gives your loved ones plenty of time to mark the date on their calendar, book travel and hotel arrangements and ask for time off of work.

Remember out-of-town guests

Be sure to get a save the date out to out-of-town loved ones so that they have time to make travel arrangements and schedule flights to get there in time.

Go multi-purpose

You can have your save the date double as a holiday card. It doesn’t have to reflect your wedding theme, so even if you’re getting married in June, you can still send out a holiday save the date.

You can also customize these bags to make them unique and just for your wedding. Some useful items we recommend to add are: Water, Snacks like popcorn or a healthy bar, gum or mints & maybe some Advil (for the morning after).

Rose Cones: Once your guests have watched you and your now hubby say I do, they will head out to watch you make your first grand appearance. Since no one actually throws rice anymore, guests receive these cones filled with flower pedals, in place of blowing bubbles after you leave your wedding ceremony! We love adding these elegant rose cones to your post ceremony. All of your guests will feel so a part of the celebration by being able to throw these rose petals into the air and the moment creates an Amazing Picture.

Plus, our Rose Cones are made of biodegradable paper with embedded wild flower seeds and are embellished with beautiful colored bows of your choice. After they are used, the guests can actually plant the Rose Cone paper and watch wild flowers grow!!! The directions to plant the cones are actually printed as a pretty poem on the inside of the cones below the couple’s names. Every year when the wildflowers bloom, everyone will be transported back to the joy of the day & fun that was had celebrating your wedding!!

Fun Fact Napkins: The party is about to begin and your guests are heading into the cocktail hour. They are enjoying the endless amount of passed hor devours and sipping on a delicious drink when they see these cute and creative napkins that you have designed & personalized to have “Fun Facts” about you and your new hubby. They are a simple touch but will make the cocktail hour fun with people trying to read all the different napkins filled with your love story.

Envelope Holder: Most of your guests will be walking into your special day with a card filled with kind words and messages of love. Since the first thing many want to do is ditch this envelope before grabbing a cocktail, having the perfect envelope holder is crucial.

Have you started to look for your wedding invitations?

If your answer to that is: “No – when should I?”, then this information is for you.

Ideally you would start looking 6-12 months before the big day.
Long Island Wedding Planners Invitation Process

Once you come in for an appointment and select your invitation, we do wording, font and layout with you. Then we submit your order for a e-mail proof, which takes 5-10 business days to arrive. At that time, you can approve as is, request changes, or wait to give an approval to confirm times or name spelling. From the time you approve your proof, the invitations take anywhere from 1-3 months to come in (depending on the type of invitation you choose. More elaborate invitations take longer to be produced. Also, invitations ordered in the height of season take longer.) We then do the calligraphy for you so all you need to do is put them in the envelope, stamp them, and send them out. Since wedding invitations need to be mailed out 2-3 months before the wedding,

Do you fall into that category?

Call to schedule your invitation consultation at 516-802-0612 or email gina@liweddingplanners.com

We know it’s hard to be in a Brides shoes. Let us help you create magical moments on your special day!

Looking for a Wedding Planner for the big day? Gina Milano is the Owner of Long Island Wedding Planners and is ABC certified and a memeber of WBENC. With 19 years of Wedding Planning experience, she is sure to be able to create your perfect day!

Why hire a Wedding Planner?

Some brides feel a wedding planner is too expensive. Compared to what? The gown? The reception? The band? Overall, the money spent for a planner/coordinator is a small percentage of the wedding budget. Many times we save you money because we know the “going” price. Because Long Island Wedding & Event Planners Boutique is a professional wedding planning company, we often bring repeat business to wedding vendors and reception venues; therefore, we have negotiating power not necessarily available to you, as an individual, scheduling a one-time event.

The major advantage of hiring a Long Island Wedding & Event Planner is that we save you not only time, but your sanity! We do the legwork for you, always working within your parameters. We do not dictate to you, but we offer you options. The pressure of locating and contracting the reception site, the caterer, the florist, the musicians, the entertainment, the photographer, the videographer, the hair stylist, the make-up artist, the room designers, and sending out thank-you notes, etc. is overwhelming. Add to that the one thousand and one last minute details that take place on your big day, and then you begin to realize what a task it is to plan one of the most special days of your life.

It is time to call Long Island Wedding & Event Planners Boutique!

Once you have retained our services, you will finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief and begin to enjoy time with your fiancée, family and friends and be re-excited about your upcoming engagement.

Long Island Wedding & Event Planners Boutique will help you to organize and manage every aspect of your wedding. Our team of event professionals will strive to flawlessly execute every plan that we have made together. Our team will be present to oversee, direct and synchronize the events of your special day.

All experiences are accompanied by our reliable and professional vendors, specifically including: location, wedding attire, entertainment, music, videographer, photographer, flowers, cake, linens, and lighting. You will also receive special discounts on your invitations, accessories, favors, tiaras, veils, bridal party gifts, and so much more!
